Mannyatt Machil Devi is the “Kula Devata“ of the ancient Mannyatt Tharavadu which is situated in the Onchiyam Panchayath of Kozhikode District in Kerala. This tharavadu is nearly 200 years old and Devi is considered to be the protector of the entire family and the surrounding people in this community. Devi is fondly called as “Mannyatt Bhagavathi”.
Devi Room
Devi is being worshipped inside a special room in the tharavadu house. Devi is considered to be the most important part of the Tharavadu and hence added to the house. There is no idol in the pooja room. But specially exists the “peetam” which is used during the pooja times. A lamp with 5 wicks is lighted inside the devi room regularly. Devi is considered as the power in which a lighted lamp is being emancipated in the Devi room.
Daily Practice
The family elder woman wakes up early morning and after taking a bath she cleans the devi room. The offerings are brought in such as fresh water and flowers. The she lits the 5 wicks lamp in the devi room. There are mainly 2 lamps in the garbha griha, the devi room. But only one lamp will be lighted normally.
